Languid

"If someone mentions the Cottages today, I think of the easy-going days drifting in and out of each other's rooms, the languid way the afternoon would fold into the evening then into night" (119)

Definition: (adj) displaying or having a disinclination for physical exertion or effort; slow and relaxed.

DAUNTED

"Even Ruth looked daunted that sunny day the minibus dropped us in front of the farmhouse" (118)

Daunted- to make (someone) feel intimidated or apprehensive

(THIS DOESN'T INTIMIDATE OUR CLASS BECAUSE WE WILL NOT GIVE UP WHEN SOMETHING GETS DIFFICULT!) We will not be daunted by the work we have to do.

Rhododemdrons

page 160 "the car too, drawn up behind the rhododendrons"

The rhododendrons look the prettiest in the spring.
